Dust Of Snow

(In Telugu)

1. The Setting (The “Sad” Vibes)

The poet starts by mentioning three things: a Crow, a Hemlock Tree, and Snow.

  • The Crow: Usually, poets write about beautiful birds like nightingales or peacocks. But Frost chooses a crow—a black, noisy bird often associated with bad luck or sadness.
  • The Hemlock Tree: This isn’t a Christmas tree! A hemlock is a poisonous tree. Again, it represents something negative or gloomy.
  • The Mood: By using these “dark” symbols, Frost is telling us he is in a very depressed and negative frame of mind. He even says he “rued” the day (which means he felt bitter or regretful about it).

2. The Incident (The “Small” Action)

The poet is walking under this poisonous tree. Suddenly, a crow sitting on a branch moves. We don’t know if it’s shivering, taking flight, or just adjusting itself, but that movement shakes the branch.

  • A fine “dust” of snow falls from the leaves and lands right on the poet.
  • Think of it like a sudden splash of cold water on your face when you’re feeling sleepy or grumpy. It’s a tiny, natural accident.

3. The Shift (The “Change of Heart”)

This is the most important part. That cold, sudden touch of snow does something magical:

  • It snaps him out of his head: He was busy overthinking his problems, but the cold snow brought him back to the present moment.
  • A Change of Mood: Suddenly, his heart feels lighter. He realizes that nature is beautiful, even in a “scary” tree or a “plain” bird.
  • Saving the Day: He says he “saved some part” of his day. Even though the morning was bad, the rest of the day was rescued because he decided to be positive.

Dust of Snow

by Robert Frost

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

Quick Summary

A simple moment in nature—a crow shaking snow from a hemlock tree—changes the poet’s depressed mood and saves the rest of his day from being wasted in regret.
